About the band Funeral for a Friend

Funeral for a Friend are one of the defining British post-hardcore bands of the 2000s. Formed in Bridgend, Wales in 2001, the band built its sound around emotionally charged heavy guitars, memorable melodies and soaring choruses. Vocalist Matthew Davies-Kreye gave the songs their unmistakable character with a voice that could shift from vulnerable to forceful in seconds.

Their 2003 debut album Casually Dressed & Deep in Conversation established Funeral for a Friend far beyond the UK alternative scene. Tracks such as Juneau, Roses for the Dead, History and Into Oblivion became anthems for a generation of post-hardcore, emo and alternative rock fans. Albums including Hours, Tales Don’t Tell Themselves and Welcome Home Armageddon showed how the band continued to expand its sound without losing its emotional core.

On stage, Funeral for a Friend were never simply about nostalgia. Their live shows thrived on the contrast between delicate melodies, sharp riffs and a crowd that returned every emotional chorus at maximum volume. In a close club setting, that connection felt immediate, loud and deeply personal.
