Flogging Molly

On November 20, 2008, Flogging Molly brought their Irish-infused punk rock to Schlachthof Wiesbaden. With raw guitars, driving rhythms and unmistakable folk instrumentation, the band delivered exactly the kind of high-energy performance their live reputation is built on.

This gallery captures the intensity of a night where melody, anger, humour and collective spirit came together. In 2008, Flogging Molly were touring around the era of Float, adding another powerful chapter to a loud autumn night in Wiesbaden.

About the band Flogging Molly

Flogging Molly are one of the defining names in Celtic punk. Formed in Los Angeles in 1997, the band combine the energy of American punk rock with traditional Irish musical influences. Dublin-born vocalist Dave King gives their songs a distinct identity through his powerful voice, direct presence and deeply personal lyrics.

Their sound brings distorted guitars and forceful drums together with fiddle, accordion, mandolin, banjo, tin whistle and Irish folk melodies. Flogging Molly songs explore heritage, loss, social conflict, exile, friendship and long nights out. That balance of huge singalong hooks and emotional roughness has earned them a following far beyond the punk scene.

From a concert photographer's perspective, Flogging Molly are made for intense images: constant movement, a wide range of instruments and a crowd that does more than sing along. Their shows feel wild, warm and immediate at the same time.
