The Subways
On 2 July 2009, The Subways brought their explosive blend of alternative rock, garage punk and huge hooks to Astra Kulturhaus in Berlin. With the sweaty intimacy of a club show, driving guitars and a direct connection to the crowd, the night captured the band's raw energy at close range.
This gallery focuses on the contrast that makes The Subways so compelling live: constant movement, focused expressions, bright stage lights and a band playing every song with full conviction.

About the band The Subways
Hailing from Welwyn Garden City, England, The Subways have been a defining name in British alternative rock since the early 2000s. The band was formed by singer and guitarist Billy Lunn, bassist and vocalist Charlotte Cooper, and drummer Josh Morgan. Their sound combines garage rock grit, punk attitude and instantly memorable melodies, built to work just as well in a packed club as on a festival stage.
The Subways broke internationally with their 2005 debut album Young for Eternity. Its standout track Rock & Roll Queen became the band's signature anthem and remains a perfect example of their unrestrained live spirit. Records including All or Nothing and Money and Celebrity continued to develop their punchy, melodic rock sound.
From a concert photographer's perspective, The Subways are all about the immediate moment: Billy Lunn's physical commitment on guitar, Charlotte Cooper's commanding presence on bass and the relentless force of the drums create a show that feels close, kinetic and completely real.
