25. August 2009, Lido, Berlin

AFI

On August 25, 2009, AFI brought their unmistakable blend of dark alternative rock, punk energy and theatrical intensity to Berlin's Lido. In the close confines of the club, atmospheric lighting met a constant exchange between the band and the crowd.

Davey Havok commanded the room with total presence while Jade Puget, Hunter Burgan and Adam Carson pushed the sound forward with power, dynamics and precision. It was the kind of night that proved why AFI remain an exceptional live band far beyond festival stages.

About the band AFI

AFI, short for A Fire Inside, formed in Ukiah, California in 1991. Originally a fast and fierce hardcore punk band, they evolved into a distinctive rock act combining gothic aesthetics, melodic alternative rock, post-hardcore influence and a fiercely loyal international following. The band's long-standing core lineup features vocalist Davey Havok, guitarist Jade Puget, bassist Hunter Burgan and drummer Adam Carson.

Albums such as Black Sails in the Sunset, The Art of Drowning, Sing the Sorrow and Decemberunderground helped define AFI's rise. Tracks including Girl's Not Grey, The Leaving Song Pt. II, Miss Murder and Love Like Winter pair huge hooks with a dark, emotionally charged atmosphere. From a concert photographer's perspective, AFI are compelling because their shows are never only about individual songs: movement, lighting, pace and Davey Havok's intense stage presence turn every set into a powerful visual experience.
